Engine restoration

The engine has been overhauled. It was removed from the car, completely dissembled and cleaned up. After that it was carefully inspected and most wearing parts were replaced during reassembly. After reassembly, engine was placed back into car and run-in for 500 km.

Here is a list of some parts that are new or restored:

  • new timing belt
  • new water pump
  • new camshaft timing chain
  • new piston rings
  • new crankshaft bearings
  • new connecting rod bearings
  • new connecting rods
  • new fuel injectors
  • new spark plugs
  • new belt covers
  • new air pipes
  • new exhaust manifold
  • new oil radiator with new air guide
  • new oil pump
  • fully restored generator
  • fully restored starter motor
  • almost all temperature, pressure, etc. sensors are replaced
  • all gaskets have been replaced
  • all filters have been replaced

In addition, turbo has been restored.

Misc engine bay upgrades

During reassembly all parts in the engine bay were either cleaned up and restored or replaced with a new ones (OEM whenever available). The engine bay itself was freshly painted in original factory color.

Here is a list of some parts that are new:

  • new AC compressor
  • new AC pipes
  • new fluid reservoirs
  • new air guides
  • new plastic covers
  • new horns
  • new various clips, bolts etc.

Complete suspension restoration

During restoration, whole suspension was removed as the underside of the car had to be restored. Most suspension parts were scrapped and replaced with completely new parts (OEM whenever possible). Front and rear subframes were sand-blasted and repainted to protect against rust and bring back the factory look.

All suspension parts are either new or professionally restored to as-new condition.

Here are some new parts worth mentioning separately:

  • new stainless steel KW coilovers
  • new PowerFlex bushes, full set

Brakes and brake lines

Front and rear brakes were completely disassembled. Calipers were sand-blasted and repainted, other brake parts were either restored or replaced with new, mostly OEM parts.

Here are some most important upgrades:

  • new brake caliper seals (better-than-factory, high temperature resistant)
  • new handbrake cords
  • new handbrake calipers
  • new brake pads
  • new bleeder valves and caps
  • new brake lines, including better-than-factory Goodridge armed stainless steel lines wherever applicable

 

Bodywork

Car has been fully dissembled and resprayed in original factory color. Front windshield has been replaced because of numerous scratches. Windows seals have been replaced wherever necessary. During disassembly it was also found that car has never been in a crash.

Following new parts were installed:

  • new front headlights
  • new fog and turn lights
  • new rear lights
  • new number plate lights
  • new moldings on doors
  • new boot opening mechanism
  • new badges and emblems

Unfortunately I was away during respray process, so I have very few pictures only after the work was done and car was sitting in the paint shop for a while.

Underside restoration

After complete removal of all suspension parts, the underside has been fully restored by removing all rust and reapplying underbody rust protection and paint to better than factory specs.

Here are some most important upgrades:

  • new heat shields (wherever possible)
  • new fuel lines
  • new caps, screws, nuts, bolts etc.
  • completely restored or replaced all remaining parts

Exhaust

New full-length stailness steel exhaust has been installed using downpipe from Supersprint and cat-back from Simons. Exhaust noise is very pleasant to the ear.

Wheels and tires

Car features original Porsche wheels with original Audi wheel caps. The wheels have been completely restored and re-painted to as-new condition.

New parts:

  • new tires
  • new wheel nuts

Gearbox and diff overhaul

Both gearbox and diff were carefully disassembled, inspected, cleaned up and worn parts were replaced to new ones. A few synchros in gerabox had been changed, other than that it was mostly cleanup and inspection.

Interior

Interior was mostly left untouched, because it is in very good, original condition showing only minimal wear.

Following parts are new or restored:

  • restored roof liner (original Alcantara with minimal asketic stitching, to make it look as close to original as possible)
  • new center console (needed replacement because of some scratches)
  • new trip computer
  • new DIFF button
  • new bulbs here and there
  • a few new plastic panels here and there
